The first day I arrived at England, I went shopping for necessities and groceries right after moving into my dorm room.  I didn't know my health was totally PROTECTED by the airports and the dorm regulations until the minute I walked in the crowds on the busiest street of our town.

EVERYBODY WAS SMOKING!

Oh my god, I am not kidding or exaggerating. Every British man, no matter male and female, young and old,  walking fast or fooling around slowly, everyone passing by me held a cigarette, and I was literally walking in the smoke!

I couldn't breathe and almost choked to death.

It's so similar to what I had been through in Hong Kong. I had endured the cigarette smoke for three days in HK, and I felt so happy when I boarded the plane to UK. ("Finally I could get rid of the smoke!") I never knew that people here in UK were heavy smokers. What a torture to my sensitive nose.

However, after I came back from Taiwan this time, I found less smoke on the streets. I was happily talking with my neighbors just now, mentioning my little discovery: "I think it's too cold and windy, so people don't want to take their hands out and hold a cigarette for a long time."

"No, no, you're wrong." "They have forbidden smoking in public since New Years Day."

How wonderful is that! I can finally go to pubs!!

"No, no. Some people still smoke secretly indoors."

All right. At least I won't be choked to death from now on.
